mojave shift pawl mod

Postby cwr greg » Mon Sep 13, 2010 2:36 pm

as seen in the picture, this is what the shift pawl looks like.
the problem,
the pawl does not go up far enough sometimes to engage the gear selector to grab the next gear firmly.
the solution,
as seen in the picture, where i have taken a black sharpie to show where the metal needs to be ground down.
take a small die grinder and cut away 1mm or the width of a sharpie mark on both the top and bottom u shape marks

this will allow the pawl to go upwards farther and get the next gear with no hang ups

I'm glad you posted a picture. This is nothing like I was picturing. I have to do kicker gears on my stock one at some point, so I'll try that one first, while it's open before messing with the race quad.

Greg,

Would you recommend this modification to anyone opening up the side cover (if there is a problem or not)?
Does this also apply to the KLR?
